Solve Your Own Problems, and Help Others

You must solve your own problems and help others to solve theirs. There is wisdom in this statement. You can only improve when you take your life into your own hands and decide to do something about your situation.

You can only gain the benefits of self-improvement when you carry out the action yourself. This doesn’t mean that you can’t get help from others. Just that you must be the initiator and the driver of the action.

It is wise to use expert help when you have proven to yourself that you can’t do it alone. But it is wrong to use expert help without first seeing whether you can do it alone. Doing it alone helps you grow and reduces your financial investment in solving the problem.

Moreover, most problems that we face we can solve ourselves because they are only small problems. Doing it alone, however, takes time, effort, and commitment; but you are investing in yourself and in your future.

Moreover, when you’ve invested time, effort, and resources to solve a problem once, on your own, you can use this solution forever whenever the problem recurs, without any further expenditure.

Let me now share a secret with you. I shouldn’t really be telling you this, given the competitive nature of life. In fact, I’ve agonised for weeks whether or not to share this with you. But you’d be glad to know that I’ve made the decision in your favour.

It’s about my confidential method of pursuing self-improvement and other life goals. This method has earned me great life accomplishments, and I’m sure it will do the same for you.

When I’m faced with a problem, any problem, this is how I proceed:

1. I devote myself to its solution. This means that the problem becomes the key driver of my life. It becomes my prime focus, my preoccupation, until I’ve solved it. It gains my total concentration.

Of course, I do take my mind off (when I can) and have some rest. Sometimes, I am so absorbed that it becomes difficult to take my mind off – then I have to force it by using a powerful distraction… anything that excites and relaxes me.

2. In the course of my devotion I research the problem thoroughly. I prefer to use written materials, carefully selected ones. There are some truly great e-books available on this site. You can also use audio and video materials. They are all available on this site, great ones too.

Perhaps, for most people (and especially the lazy ones), this research is done simply by talking to other people. I don’t like this very much because people lie, mislead, give you what you want to hear, frustrate you, insult you, and so on. Therefore their information is most often unreliable.

On the other hand, written material involves careful thought, is authored by the best people, and is refereed before being published. So are audio and video materials. They are therefore much more reliable.

3. I study each material slowly, methodically, actively, and carefully. I do so everyday. I never rush; I give myself all the time I need. New material is always hard to learn, no matter how clever you are.

Your brain has to do all the work to assimilate the material and relate it to what you already know. It is always trying to build a consistent picture based on logic... it is trying to create understanding out of your learning.

This process saps energy and digests food rapidly to provide the energy. Therefore, when I do this, I have a tendency to eat more frequently than I normally do.

I also tend to feel really knackered. At times, when I stand I feel like falling over. And when I walk I feel dizzy… even a fly could knock me over. I always take vitamin food and drinks to keep up. Decaffeinated coffee is my brain decongestant.

Deep immersion into, or preoccupation with, my thoughts could make me absent-minded and eccentric. And the stress involved could make me short-tempered and irritable. My blood pressure always seems to suffer at this time.

I will read book after book and e-book after e-book, until I am satisfied that all my questions have been answered. At this point, I have closed the issue and my mind settles. I feel relaxed.

4. Once I have completed my study I enter the review phase. At this stage, I take each e-book or book and summarise it in only a few pages. I pay attention to only those key features that have direct relevance to my problem.

Within each summary I integrate my personal and unique insights and analyses, based on what I have learned from the exercise. I then combine and integrate the summaries to achieve synergy. This combined summary is my blueprint for attacking the problem.

5. I now consider how to attack my problem using the combined summary. This leads to a report or plan describing how I shall apply the research findings to my problem. This is an application report.

6. Finally, I apply the findings to solve the problem. I use the application report to solve the problem.

There is a great lesson here for you. It means that when you have a problem, you should:

1. Come to this site to investigate your problem. Do so everyday while working on your problem. Come here every time you have a problem. If you are helping others to solve their problems, get them to visit this site everyday while solving their problem and whenever they have a problem. If this site can’t help, be patient. More and more solutions are added as the site evolves.

2. Study the free guidance materials on the site. Remember that this site is your personal assistant. Therefore, study its free materials first so you know how best to use the site’s solutions to solve your problem.

3. Research the site’s solutions. These are articles, e-books, audio books, video books, goods, services, and related sites. Take your time, be devoted, and don’t rush.

4. Construct summaries of your studies and integrate the summaries to provide synergy. While doing so, pay particular attention to your problem (your goal) so you select only relevant materials from your study. Be as original as possible, and add your own insights.

5. Construct an application report. From your combined summary, work out an application report that discusses how you are going to apply your findings to your problem.

6. Apply your findings to your problem. This solves your problem in a systematic, well-thought-out manner. The solution will be robust.

Mere reading is not enough to develop insight into something. After a while you have to write down your thoughts by summarising your reading, integrating the summaries, and then constructing an application report out of your combined summary.

You will implant the material more deeply into your brain if you vocalise and publicise your findings. To do these, give a speech to yourself, your friends, your family, your colleagues, or any group you are familiar with.

You can then action your findings by applying them to solve your problem. When you do so you transform your self-image into being a problem solver, with all the trappings that go with it.

When you implement your findings you’ll often find that you develop more insights and original thoughts that were not apparent before implementation. This will compel you to go back and rework your application report. This is called iteration.
